Hong Kong is a "butterfly paradise” as it is home to more than 250 butterfly species. Among them, we can find Swallowtail, which is under national Second Class protection; and Grass Jewel, one of the world’s smallest butterflies. However, there are still many butterfly hotspots that are unprotected and vulnerable to destruction by developments.
In 2008, Green Power launched Hong Kong’s first citizen butterfly survey. To date, we have more than 200 butterfly surveyors. Discovering Butterflies - Hong Kong's First Citizen Butterfly Survey celebrates the accomplishments of the Butterfly Surveyor Training Scheme. Surveyors guide readers to unprotected butterfly hotspots in Hong Kong, introducing their significant findings and records. Readers can also explore Hong Kong butterflies, and discover the pleasures and challenges of surveying.
