Popular beaches and nearby coastlines are clean and beautiful, because of the government’s efforts to keep them clean. However, there are many non-gazetted beaches in Hong Kong which are often strewn with garbage. Not only is this visually unpleasant but it also affects marine life. Garbage will drift with the tide back into the sea, where marine creatures may suffocate by mistakenly swallowing plastic bags and styrofoam.
We continuously mobilise the public to clean up the coastlines, taking practical actions to protect the natural environment. Participants in the Coastal Clean Up Action are able to understand the importance of coastal conservation better and learn more about coastal ecology. We encourage coastal conservation and waste reduction at source through promoting education in primary schools, organising school activity days and teacher workshops as well as publishing teaching materials.
We mobilise the public to protect coastal ecosystems through gaining knowledge, appreciation and taking actions.
