About 40% of land in Hong Kong are country areas. In contrast, the green coverage ratio in the urban areas in Hong Kong has always been relatively low, only about 20%, due to a lack of green planning in the earlier days. We are the first organization to work on urban tree planting in Hong Kong. We plant trees that are approximately 3 meters tall and various shrubs at pavements, central reservations, schools and special facilities in the community.
Planting trees in the urban area has a lot of advantages. It can effectively moderate the micro-climate, thus cooling down the city. It can absorb pollutants in the air and provide us with clean air. It also helps make the surrounding environment become more pleasant by adding more green among the skyscrapers in the urban areas.
We have specially chosen native species from South China and Hong Kong. We would like to provide places in the city where local small animals, birds, butterflies and other insects can forage and rest, thus enhancing the urban ecosystem.
