Situated in the valley plains over 100 m above sea levels and occupying over 80 hectares of land, Sha Lo Tung consists of large stretches freshwater wetlands, which is a well-known habitat for dragonflies in Hong Kong. Under the government’s new conservation policy, Sha Lo Tung is also an ecological hotspot that is ranked second on a list of conservation areas that require increased efforts in conservation. Its ranking is second to Ramsar Wetlands.
Since 2009, we continually recorded the distribution and population of local dragonfly species, in order to monitor changes in the local environment. Over 70 species of dragonfly have been recorded to date.2018
