To promote green culture and lifestyle.


 

To raise public awareness of environmental protection, through providing the latest information on environmental issues.
To establish an environmental education centre in the western New Territories.
History

The centre is in Tak Wah Park, on the site of the former Hoi Pa Village. The centre was converted from a traditional Hakka-styled house, which was built in 1904 by Mr. Yau.
Designated as a monument in 1986 by the Antiquities Authority.

 
Converted to Tsuen Wan Environmental Resource Centre by EPD and opened to the public since 1997.
Since 2000, the centre has been managed by Green Power.
Centre Facilities

Provides both Chinese and English language books on environmental protection, ecology, pollution, wildlife and local history.  

 
 
 
Provides government publications, leaflets, pamphlets, periodicals and environmental journals that are related to environmental protection.  

 
Provides an Internet service for environmental information.  
     
2. Exhibition Room  

 
Two Exhibition Rooms: Hakka kitchen and Storeroom for agricultural tools.  

 
 
Exhibits with traditional Chinese kitchen, stove, cooking utensils, agricultural tools and display boards.  
     
3. Computer Room  

 
Provides computer games with environmental themes.  
     
4. AV Room  

 
Gives film shows for the public, on various environmental issues.

Services
Various cost-free environmental educational activities are regularly organized by the centre.
 
1. Guided Visits  
Through touching by hands Children learned the reason of peeling off of the Melealuca tree bark
 
Students are learning how to build up a wind power generator!

Learning environmental protection happily!



  Provided guided visit tours with different topics and formats, arousing the interest of public to appreciate the nature, and to take part in environmental protection. Schools and public organization are welcome to make appointment for guided visit tours.

To raise environmental awareness of students through learning more about trees in the park.
 
"Renewable Energy"
To learn the pros and cons of renewable and non-renewable energy.
 
"Recycling DIY"
To practice the concept of waste reuse and recycling.
 
"Hollow Man"
To learn the characteristics of air through experiments, and air quality of Hong Kong.
 
"Pollutions"
To learn air, water, noise and waste pollution in HK.
 
"Value of Recycling"
To learn about waste sorting and recycling.
 
"Resource Auction Company"
To experience the unequal distribution of natural resources on the Earth.
 
"Forest Over the Water"
To learn the ecology and biodiversity of wetlands.
 
     
2. Workshops  
A workshop is annually organized for schoolteachers. It aims at increasing their knowledge and awareness on environmental education.  
     
3. Display Panels and Subject Corner  
Exhibit books, display boards and related resources under a designed topic at the library and exhibition room. It aims at introducing ecology and environmental protection to the public.  
The topic is renewed every two months. Topics include:
- Trees in Tak Wah Park
- Start eating from organic foods
- Conservation of fish ponds
- Renewable energy
- Have a complete understanding of animals
- Clear sky
